Children's and Family Baskets Ideas for the Epiphany Auction

Join together with the members of your family or your Sunday School class and create a basket donation for the St. George’s Epiphany Children's Auction to be held on Sunday, March 21st, following the 9:30 Family Eucharist.  When making a homemade gift basket, using a basic theme is a good starting point. You can then add more of your own gift ideas to the basket.  If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Henches at nhenches@hotmail.com or Jo Anne Robbins at rjoanne1@nycap.rr.com .

Suggestions for Baskets for Chidren and their Families

1.  Class Pet or Mascot Basket:  Select a class pet or mascot!  Tie in a basket with that theme.  For instance, talk to the owner of a pet shop and see if they will give you any supplies or a certificate for a hamster (or what every class pet you have) then bring in books, food, bedding, or stuff for the cage, and pet toys.  If your mascott is something like a fish, find a fish restaurant to donate a coupon for a free dinner or something.  If it’s something like a horse, get some book covers, folders with horse pictures on them or books about horses.

2.  Family Night Basket:  Make a basket with a family night theme, chocolate bars, marshmallows and graham crackers and directions for making smores using the oven or microwave, include a family game like Yatzee, other snacks, a movie rental coupon or a DVD with family appeal.

3.  A Trip to the NYS Museum Basket:  Include a disposable camera, journal with your theme (use stickers) facts about animals, birds or habitats they might see, a certificate for gift shop at that place, a plush animal like bear or bird and a gift certificate to ride the Merry-go-Round and for lunch at the museum.

4.  Game Day Basket: Dice, cards, puzzles, small prizes, timers, pencils, paper (for keeping score) and some snacks.

5.  Quiet Time Basket: Books, bookmarkers, word puzzle book, sudoko book, crayons, coloring books, journal, and a movie rental coupon.

6.  Scrapbooking for School Days Basket: A scrap book with school color(s), edging scissors, punches, stickers, gel pens, scrap book paper with school themes, two sided tape and other scrapbooking supplies.

7.  Crafts with the Kids Basket: Fun foam, beads, pipe cleaners, felt, buttons, paper bags (for making puppets), sequins, wood shape cut outs, paints, glue, scissors, wood frames, feathers, wiggle eyes, craft sticks, magnets.

8.  Out on the Town Family Night Basket: Dinner coupons (try to negotiate free) at kid's favorites like Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Friendly’s, a certificate for Ice Skating at the Arena with free skate rentals, or a bowling or mini golf certificate for a family of 4.

7.  Read a Book Basket: Book bag, books, book marker, certificate for book store, book covers, book light, your choice coupon for a Scholastic Book at the library 2 for 1 sale, or a book on tape.

8.  Build a Bird House: Hammer, nails, wood glue, paint, wood kit or pre made bird house from craft store, bird book, bird seed (for bird feeder).

9.  Pizza Making Kit: Pizza wheel, pizza pan, pizza cook book, boboli shells, store bought pizza sauce, grocery store gift card (to buy the cheese and toppings) pizza server, red checkered napkins, plates sturdy paper or plastic), and 2 litter soda.
