Soup Kitchen Needs your Help

Submitted by stgadmin on Sat, 02/04/2012 - 8:55am

Over the past couple decades; St. George‟s has been supporting the soup kitchen at Grace and Holy Innocents Church in downtown Albany. Our scheduled slot had always been the fourth Saturday of every month that had five Saturdays. Our youth group has done this and will go down in mass to help out, sometimes as many as six adults and a dozen kids. Recently, the soup kitchen has had a hard time finding people committed to serving the meals. On some Saturdays, there may only be three people (over the age of 70) preparing, serving and cleaning. To help out, I have volunteered St. George‟s to take another seven weekends a year (the last Saturday of the month for odd months and during the summer). This is a good time and a great practical way to show Jesus‟ love for others by modeling His servant role. This can be done with family, friends, or a group from church or work or simply social. Mother Teresa said she always found Jesus by taking the hands of those who no one else wanted into her own hands. If you are interested, please let me know or sign up on the sheet in the Narthex. Thank you.

Dates needing assistance are: March 31, May 26, June 30, July 28, August 25, September 29 and November 24.
